Commander of the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands

Appointments as Commanders of the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands are rare, being given for example to Dutch Nobel Prize laureates or artists of international renown.

One recent appointment as Commander of the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands is that of Professor Ben Feringa, professor of molecular sciences at the University of Groningen. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2016.

Other distinguished Dutch citizens who have received this honour are writer and illustrator Dick Bruna, conductor Bernard Haitink and actor and director Jeroen Krabbé.
